PCTM Monthly Mathematics Professional Development

The Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of Mathematics (PCTM) will be offering five one-hour professional development sessions to K-12 math teachers throughout Spring 2021. Each session will be geared to a different grade bands and will share activities and teaching strategies to help mathematics teachers meet the needs of their students during this unprecedented time in our teaching history.

The first session will be held January 28th 2021 from 7:00-8:00 PM ET.

This session will be led by Edel Reilly, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and will focus on teaching fraction tasks using fraction bars. The session will begin by showing participants how to have students make their own fraction bars at home. Several activities using fraction bars to teach fraction computation will be shared. Anyone who is interested in learning how to use fraction strips to help students better understand fractions is welcome to attend.
